Signature Program:

It’s a Mother Daughter Thing! was created to empower young women and their mothers to become engaged, educated and explore career opportunities in the construction industry. Our primary goal is to: Educate girls and their mothers on pathways into the construction industry, engage girls and their mothers through one-on-one dialogue with women and employers in the construction industry, and explore the construction industry with hands-on activities that reflect real-world situations.

Since the inception of our signature program more than 500 girls and their mothers participated in the program and eight girls enrolled in construction related programs in 2017.

New Programs:

Power UP Workshops are the sharing of knowledge and practical skills required for the construction industry trades. These one to two-day workshops are designed to heighten participant awareness through hands on tasks under the tutelage of industry experts. Workshop activities include science, technology and applied mathematics. Workshop topics include, but, are not limited to the following: safety, electronics and coding, financial literacy, diversity and inclusion, heavy equipment operations with use of simulators, and rigging practices. Select Power UP workshops have a credential upon completion.

 Power UP the Summer is a summer camp program that introduces youth entering 8th grade to tasks such as safety, basic rigging, crane operations, electrical and much more through hands-on application as well as science, technology and mathematics mechanics.  This summer camp is in partnership with industry leading experts. The camps duration is 3-5 days.

Power UP Loud is a three-hour workshop offered twice a year (fall and spring) and designed to introduce education professionals to high-impact programs. These programs are geared toward pre-k though high school students and their parents. The program provides education professionals with best practices for students to learn about opportunities in the construction industry. The workshop is the foundation of making connections, impacting education and inspiring education professionals about career possibilities in construction. Students participate in activities that are science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and academically linked while aligning with careers in construction.

Power UP Loud gives education professionals an opportunity to learn about today’s: Construction workplace from industry experts, trends and lucrative wages, discover the skills needed to be successful and additionally, participants engage in an intriguing field trip to a construction site where they learn.

Power UP…Way UP! Is designed with the contractor, owner and trade association in mind, this program connects the education system, community and the construction industry. Contractors, owners and trade associations participate in Power UP initiatives that can improve the image of the industry, create a young talent pipeline and much more through collaborative community efforts.

Power UPs (PUPs) is a Power UP program designed to introduce pre-k to 7th grade students to careers in construction. Power UP advises and coordinates with educators about activities that introduce applied science, technology and mathematics in various careers. Students also explore career pathways through art, writing and fashion. PUPs is traditionally implemented throughout the month of October but can be implemented at various times throughout the year. Activities of this program encourage open ended exploration, self-confidence, team building, problem solving and decision-making.
